Butter Taste Test

Helllllllooooooo everybody!
If you're a subscriber of the Mental Magic Newsletter or follow me on Facebook you may already be aware that I'm up in Seattle right now working with some hypnotherapy clients and doing some comedy hypnosis shows all around the Pacific Northwest. I love it here and I'll be glad to get back to the sunshine and swimming pool back home in Phoenix.
While here in Seattle I had the opportunity to be a part of a butter taste test with Nutritionist Carole Freeman and her intern Mikayla Nichole Fletcher. What did we discover about the taste of all of these butters? Why I might start paying more for my butter because of something else that I don't eat enough of. What butter tasted like butter flavored butter? All of these questions will be answered and more. It was a lot of fun and you can hear how much weight I've lost in the last month by upping the fats in my diet and lowering the carbs. And yes I have of course been using hypnosis to help me stick to the plan. Believe me, it helps. Especially when I'm at a function and there are nachos, or pie, or ... well you get the idea.
As you've probably heard the recommendations are shifting away from the low fat, high carbohydrate diet that was once viewed as a 'healthy' diet. When I think about how many eggs and how much butter I missed out on! Argghh! Now I eat eggs nearly everyday and my cholesterol profile is better than ever.
I think that the more closely we eat what our ancestors ate the better off we are. I mean it worked for them right? While I do think that we can make improvements on what they ate to be healthier it's a bit difficult to know what those improvements would be. I feel like we are lab rats in a great 'edible product' experiment. I say 'edible products' because many of these things that people eat and are that part of the Standard American Diet (SAD) shouldn't necessarily be called food. I like the idea of - Just Eat Real Food or JERF. I first heard this term, JERF from Sean Croxton (http://www.seancroxton.com) of The Underground Wellness Podcast. I highly recommend you check it out.
Many times when I'm working with hypnotherapy clients they tell me they're are confused about what to eat. I mean we hear something new everyday. One day coffee is healthy, the next it's not. I don't if or when we'll ever know for certain what the best diet/foods are for each individual. There are so many variables - genetics, lifestyle, diseases, etc. I believe though if you stick to JERF, you're going to be way ahead of the game.
One of the tough things weight loss clients struggle with is feeling hungry all the time. I know - I've been there! I remember when I was at my highest weight, nearly 300 lbs I was hungry all the time. Clients tell me they eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and an hour later they're hungry again. Then they begin eating more protein and/or fat (like eggs, Greek yogurt, etc) and suddenly they can go several hours between meals without feeling hungry.
When you consume carbohydrates they are typically digested quicker than proteins and fats and can cause your blood sugar to spike and then fall which can cause the hunger. I'm not a nutritionist and I never advocate any certain diet over another to my clients because I've had clients that have used hypnosis to lose weight and were able to do while still eating all the same foods they've always eaten, just less. I'm not so lucky. For me and for many of us we need to make different choices. But it gets easier to do that with the hypnosis and over time.
I've said many times that there was a time when I seriously didn't think I could go a single day without having ice cream. Several years later and I couldn't even tell you the last time I had it. AND the best part is - I don't miss it. It's not difficult at all. I just don't want it. That kind of freedom is incredible. I still do crave pie though sometimes :) But I'm working on some ketogenic, low carb recipes so maybe I'll be eating pie again shortly. Fingers crossed! I still look back at my before and after pics especially one I created that shows me on stage doing stand up comedy at around 275 lbs and another showing me on stage doing my comedy hypnosis show at Tacoma Comedy Club at 200 lbs. The difference is amazing! And the best part is I feel better. Really, so much better.
Enjoy the video. I think you'll find it entertaining and informative. My favorite kind.
